Seizing the moment: Stakeholder perspectives on future approaches to hosting refugees in Kenya
Abstract
This report explores the opportunities and challenges for socio-economic integration of displacement-affected communities in Kenya, focusing on Garissa and Turkana counties. It examines this within a period of significant transition in Kenya’s legal and policy framework for hosting refugees, marked by the introduction of the Refugees Act 2021, the Shirika Plan, and the municipalisation of Kakuma and Dadaab towns. It identifies key principles and recommendations for the future, as well as key actions and considerations for various actors who hold the key to achieving durable solutions for the displacement affected communities in Kenya.
